January News:
Throughout the month of January we will be discussing the different seasons and also weather (winter in particular). Kindergarten will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Friday, January 30th. We will be sending a note home that lists things that will be needed for our 100th day activities. Please be looking for this in your child's folder.
During January we will also be administering the DRA again with each child. This is required by the state and checks pre-reading skills (letter sounds, print awareness, etc.). This test is not a pass/fail situation. It simply will show us where your child is at and what we need to focus on with them next.
In Kindergarten, we are constantly working with letters and sounds. We are concentrating on the formation of the letters and also with blending the letters into various words. Please help reinforce the correct formation of letters while your child is writing at home.
Please try to get involved here at Prairie Trail by joining and volunteering through the PTA. This is a wonderful way for you to show your support of our school! If you are wanting to volunteer at Prairie Trail this year, please fill out the volunteer application located on the LISD website (www.lisd.net). If you have filled one out in the past for older siblings, it is good for 3 years.
