LANGUAGE ARTS:
Our letter focus for the week is “T”. (For TRAIN, of course!)  This week’s sight word is “it”.  We’ll be reading The Polar Express in preparation for our train ride Thursday on the “North Pole Express”.  Students will sequence the details, as we focus on the beginning, middle and end of the story. We’ll write an acrostic poem and publish a class book about where we would travel if we were on the Polar Express.  Santa’s Book of Names, is another book we will share as we explore a little boy’s struggle to read when Santa finds he needs some help.

Secret Sack Wednesday -- T

SIGHT WORDS:  in  is  I  the  a  my  and  on  you  have  I  it
LETTERS:  Mm  Ff   Bb  Ss  Jj  Pp   Cc  Dd   Hh  Tt

MATH:
Students will color their own copy of an interactive story as we introduce our new unit, learning about the numbers 6-10.  They will enjoy making their own dominoes to show 6.  We’ve planned many other “hands on” activities to help the students count to and make the numbers 6 and 7.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Holiday traditions from around the world will be our focus through the month of December as we continue with our study of family traditions and customs.  We’ll travel to Holland this week.  Shhh...the children will leave their shoes in the hallway and see if they receive a surprise.  Students will learn about Jewish traditions from Israel during the celebration of Hanukkah.  We’ll even play a variation of the Dreidel game.  Students will locate both Holland and Israel on a world map.  Holiday books will help reinforce concepts.

HEALTH:
Students will identify healthy foods that make their bodies the best that that they can be.  The “Snack Rap” is a fun way to learn about healthy food choices.  We’ll read Gregory the Terrible Eater to further expand this concept. Help your child by sending healthy food choices for lunch and snack.
