I only have a few min. before picking up the class, but I wanted to say a BIG,BIG thank you to all the parents and all my class for making teacher appreciation week so special. I definitely feel very much appreciated. Yall are the best!!! Really- I had a wonderful week of flowers, meals, candy, cards- you name it. Have a wonderful Mother's Day to all the moms in my class who have raised super children. You deserve all the best!
NO EXTENDED DAY TODAY 4-28-09
4-28-09 We have completed Mon. & Tues. night's spelling homework in class as well as the Tues. reading log. Tonight your child's only homework is to get a good night's sleep & bring (2) #2 pencils for the math taks test tomorrow. Stay dry & we will see you tomorrow!
4-21-09 I updated the calendar for April & May. We are finishing a review of unit 6 in grammar. The test is Thurs. Voc. grades have gone down over the past few stories. Be sure your child is looking over the list each week. Tutorials will end Thurs. The math TAKS test is next Tues. Field day t-shirt money is now due($5). We will need helpers to set up tents & loan us tents for our camping (inside the classroom) week. If you can loan us a tent for 5 days and/or help us set them up after school on the 19th of May, let me know.
4-2-09 Report cards went home yesterday. I need them signed & returned please. In the red folder was the stanford scores, taks scores, and a form to pick a time to come to student-led conferences. Return the conference time you'd like to have as soon as possible. Tomorrow we will have our usual voc. test- but I will be asking the kids to write a journal entry instead of their usual comprehension test. We have an EDM test & topic 12 ( patterns) in envision math test too.If your child has not turned in the sci. fair packet it can be turned in tomorrow with 10 pts. off.
3-26-09 A few reminders: I will be at a PYP conference & will have a sub on Fri. (tomorrow)and Mon.There will be LDC homework on Fri. I will, unfortunately, not be in the class/group picture. I asked about a make up date- they don't do that & I was told the date for the picture was set last year. Finally, the sci. fair fill-in-the-blank packet is due Wed., April 1st. There is no project board to do.
3-09-09 Just to let you know, there are still 5 spots left for my end of the year pool party. I didn't see many parents at the Bash- so I wanted you to know that they have the sign up papers on a table next to the nurse's office ( It's on a blue sheet.) There's still time to sign up. Also, the moon calendar is due Fri. ( for a grade). Finally, we finished our lang. unit 5, writing good sentences, a little early. The test will be this Thurs. We will have a review in class. If you have not turned in your $10 for the Interactive Theater field trip- it is now due. The field trip is THIS Fri. No lunch needed we will be back in time for lunch. Have a safe & fun Spring Break!!! Relax- NO HOMEWORK!!
2-26-09
Thank you to all who helped with the Space Center Hou. field trip. The kids had a great time & learned a lot. They are really enjoying this planner & have lots of questions about space & all the planets we are studying. Our next field trip will be the Fri. before spring break. Permission slips will be in the Mar. 3rd Tues. red folder.
If you have not signed & turned in the promotion standards form, please do so now. It was in the Tues. folder 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to find an extra copy to give out to those still missing it. Look for it in the Tues. folder. It goes in their permanent record file so, I definitely need one back from everyone.
Don't forget to have your child get a good nights sleep & good breakfast Tues. morning when we take the TAKS reading test. There will be no more after school reading TAKS tutorials after Tues. until we get the results of who passed/failed. Math tutorials will continue on Tues. & Thurs.
I am sponsoring a pool party in June for the Huckleberry Bash. Please try to bid on this item to help raise money for the school. Thank you to Mrs. Poindexter & Mrs. Schachter for helping create the beautiful bench from our classroom. Be sure to bid on that item too. If you've never gone, the Bash is a fun party with great food & even better things to buy. It's always a lot of fun.
There is LDC homework tonight. Please make sure 2 journals ( Ch. 9 & 10) come back on Mon. Going home today is a moon calendar. Students will draw the moon each day for a month to learn the different phases. I am sending home the Space Center Houston field trip form. If your child brought back the form to take home the hamster, I assigned a date for you & those papers are with your children. Thank you to our parents who went on the Fine Arts field trip. I need more volunteers to go to NASA. The more we have, the smaller the groups & the more we will see. Also, I'm out of baby wipes, paper towels, & hand sanitizer. Have a great weekend!!!
We have a date for the Space Center Hou. field trip. It will be Feb. 20th, all day. It is $16.45. You have the option to purchase lunch for an additional $7.95 or they can bring a lunch. Some test dates on the calendar have been changed- please make a note. I will send a class list of names for Valentines cards on Tuesday- should you want to exchange cards. We will not have a party.
LDC has been changed again. We will return on Mon. Feb. 2nd. We will be reading the story, My Teacher is an Alien. Our time for going to the Museum of Fine Arts has changed too. We will go in the afternoon- 12:30-2:30 now in order for us not to miss LDC in the morning. The calendar has been updated for all the reading tests for the month of Feb. & the 2 science tests. TAKS reading test will be March 3rd. We are taking a practice test ( required by the district) next week. Remember the International Festival is Sat. Great food and a lot of fun!!!
There have been some changes to the calendar. We return to LDC next week- not the 9th and Stanford tests have been moved back one day to that we could watch the inauguration. We may change our time for the Museum of Fine Arts if I can get another teacher to switch with us- that way we don't miss LDC.
Happy New Year everyone! Sorry it's taken a week to have a school notes update. We had a wonderful holiday party!! Thank you to Mrs. Quan & Mrs. Katic for organizing it. Thank you to all the parents for my wonderful gift. I purchased a pair of gold earrings that I love. Thank you to those who gave to our sponsored child too.
A couple of things have been asked of me to pass along to you. First, we have no class pictures for the yearbook. If any of you have pictures from the Nutcracker or science night- any school activity- please pass them along to the yearbook people. You can e-mail them to YearbookMT@aol.com. Second, to help out with the Huckleberry Bash, each grade level is in charge of a basket they will auction off. Ours is grilling. In order to not duplicate items, the lead parents are asking for you to donate money. You can turn this into me. I have an envelope to collect it.
We will be finishing our architecture unit next week and begin our space unit on Jan. 26th. There will be no homework during the Stanford test week.I do have 2 tests that will be given though. I think if I wait til the following week- the students will have a harder time recalling the information. We will review in class- so there will still be no homework. The tests ( Grammar on Thurs. & math on Fri.) will be given in the afternoon- hours after the Stanford test has been completed. No spelling test. No reading log.
I am looking for parent volunteers to start doing art -a-la-carte lessons. The best day/time for this is Friday @ 1:00. If you can spare an hour on Friday afternoons let me know.
Check the calendar on this web-site for an update on tests and subjects being taught this month.
We have earned enough class points for a prize. The students have voted in getting a gerbil or hamster. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing this item. It will basically be "on loan" to us for the rest of the year. I will let one student per weekend take it home, then at the end of the year we will return the animal to you to keep.
We have sent home the science fair packet. This year every third grader is responsible for a science fair project. There will be no display board or class presentation though. We want each child to go through the process and steps. The fill-in-the-blank papers ( found in the packet) are due April 1st. Doing the actual experiment is optional. There will be a grade taken for this assignment.
A few reminders for the coming week. Our field trip is Tues. Bring a snack & a sack lunch. Wed. we will have some visitors from another IB school coming to observe our classrooms. Our science test (Ch. 3) will be Thurs. Our library day is Friday. Please help your child remember to bring their library books. The school ( student council group) is collecting items like books, art supplies, & stuffed animals for a children's hospice. Don't forget to buy a paperback book ( no more than $5.00)for the classroom gift exchange during our class party the last week of school.
Hello everyone! Three things before we go to Thanksgiving break. One, our Ch. 10 test in soc. studies will be tomorrow. (We already wrote out voc. flashcards last week.)Also, our end of the planner summative assessment ( same info. that was covered in Ch. 9 & 10) will be tomorrow. Second, our student led conferences are going to be Wed., Dec. 3rd. I kept the same times as you signed up for last time. 6 students still need their parents' commitment to come. Third, somehow my husband's work cell phone number was printed in the student directory. Not sure how this happened. Please ask your children not to use this number thinking they will reach me for a homework- type question. We usually use the max # of min. in our plan as it is now. Have a safe, fun Thanksgiving holiday. We have so much to be thankful for!!! We will start our architecture planner when we return.
Good morning. We start back to LDC this week. Since we are not reading a book in LDC- we're doing a social studies project, we will have reading log this week and next. There will be NEW reading log questions for the new 9 weeks. Please check that your child is turning in a signed reading log every Mon. morning. I do require them to make up any missing reading logs. Last week I had 7 students forget theirs on Mon. and 2 never turned one in all week. The reading log is a very important part of increasing vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension. Student led conferences will be Nov. 19th. This is the time your child gets to show you work from our first planner, set up goals for the year, and brag a little. It is a very powerful experience for the child and very revealing for the parent.Right now there are 9 students that still need their parent's commitment to attend. The 3- 3:30 time slot is full. We have the 3:30-4 slot & 4-4:30 slots still open. We start junior achievement classes on Fri. and we have our pizza party for having 100% of our class' parents join PTO. Thanks so much for your support! Don't forget to bring in your child's purchase from their budget this Fri. for our show and tell. More info. to come....
Hello. Hope everyone had fun at Spooky Spaghetti. I was attending my sister's wedding shower, but my family was at the carnival- you may have seen them. While at my sister's shower we learned my 101 yr. old grandmother passed away. Up until this summer, when she fell & had to have hip surgery, she was living in her house, fixing her own meals, trying to still cut her yard, etc. She was an incredible lady. She has 5 children, 18 grand kids, 36 great-grand kids, and one great-great grand-kid.She was alive during both world wars & could tell you events from them both. Her funeral is Wed. in Fort Worth. I will have a sub that day. I will be back to school on Thurs. We will finish our first soc. stud. unit this week and the test will be Thurs. Have your child study the highlighted voc. words from the chapter. Thank you for all the pumpkin carving helpers. I hope you had fun. I know the kids had a blast. We couldn't have done it w/o all the help. The Mrs. Baird's Bakery field trip has been cancelled. The factory received damage from Ike & is under repair. The next field trip is to the Nutcracker Dec. 9th.
Please have your child bring any foreign money to school in a zip lock baggie with their name on it and the name of the country it came from. If you have more than one country- use a different baggie per country.
CORRECTION: THE CLASS PARTY STARTS AT 5:30!!! NOT 5. Also, pumpkin carving(Oct. 23rd) will be from 10 AM- 11:45. If you want to stay for lunch that day, our lunch time is from 11:45- 12:20.
10- 15-08 Hello to all. There are a couple of events coming up that we need lots of parental involvement. We need parents to bake cakes for the cake walk & sign up for a shift to work the carnival. We need parents to mark their calendars for our class party on Thurs., Oct. 23rd. 5:30-7 pm. Finally, I need lots of parent help next Thurs. when we carve pumpkins in the classroom. Remember to buy your medium- sized pumpkin this weekend & bring it to class by Thurs. morning. The more parents I have help- the more detailed carvings we can make on the pumpkins. If you have good pumpkin carving tools- the more we have, the faster we can work. It's messy- but tons of fun. Students can keep their pumpkins here til Fri. then take them to the caft. to enter them in the Spooky Spaghetti carving contest.
We have been taking a practice math & reading TAKS test this week ( required by the district). The results will be graded to find weaknesses- but the grades will not be put in my grade book. We have started back using our reading log this week. Be sure your child is reading & answering the questions daily. Reading logs are due on Mon., signed by you. You should have received a note about having your child earn an income & keep a budget. We will start Mon. & keep one for 4 weeks. The Mrs. Baird's Bakery field trip has not been scheduled yet. We switched the teacher in charge- so I'll let you know the date as soon as we get it. The cost will only be for the bus ( around $5).
10-2 Welcome back to everyone. I just got the 8 ft. by 20 ft. pile of leaves and limbs picked up from in front of my house yesterday, I'm starting to be able to see the bottom of our green pool again, and I've just about re-stocked my favorite salad dressings,so I feel like I'm getting back to normal. I hope your family is too. I was out all of Tues. meeting with my insurance adjuster and yesterday our grade level was planning for our next PYP planner. We had an excellent sub both days and are back on track.
Hopefully, day 3 of LDC has gone well for your child. Both Mrs. Gee and I went through each child's folder today and wrote comments and gave a grade. Please read what we wrote and let me know if your child is still not understanding the assignments.
I will be sending off the first scholastic book order. If there is a parent available to do this job this weekend (or all year)... that would be great. The requirements are to take home the envelope of collected forms, fill out the master order form, call in the order, and mail off the payment(postage is provided).Let me know if you can help.
PTO- I will be sending home a PTO membership form. There are incentives for the students. If our class has 85% membership they will give me a $25 Target card. I have promised the class I'd buy some recess toys. For 100% membership, we will get a $50 card. There is no cost to join the PTO. There's a way to join on- line too.
Field trip money to the IMAX is now due. $9.00. Those of you who want to go on more than one field trip may now sign the form outside my room. I think we've allowed enough time for those who wanted to sign up for at least one- to do so.
I will have several graded papers in next Tues. red folder. Progress reports will go home then too. Tomorrow's reading comprehension test will be open book.
We will not be doing a reading log while we're in LDC.
Test calendar will be updated soon.
9-9-08 Reminder tonight is open house. Our time is from 7-8. I know there are several parents trying to juggle being 2 places at once. I can relate. I have a first grader & fifth grader & will have to have my husband be 2 places at once. With that in mind- I plan to talk for no more than 30 min. then try to repeat the presentation again at 7:30. I realize there are 4 sets of twins in the third grade. Many parents will be trying to split themselves between 2 or more teachers. I tried to make a lot of handouts so that I won't have to talk so long. There will be a volunteer sign up sheet & field trip sign up sheet. If you are unable to attend, please be sure to come by this week & look outside my door for these sheets. Also, I need you to verify the contact info. with our room mom, Kerry, so she can finalize our mini- class directory.Hope see you tonight- good luck with parking!!!
9-4 Math homework notes: the mode is like the "winner"; the amount of hours that was most common; or had the most tally marks on the chart.
9-3-08
The calendar has been updated.
8-27-08
Welcome to Mrs. Sigmon's school notes page. I sent home a formal introduction letter today. ( It's on yellow paper.) Thank you parents for returning the first of school packets so quickly. You did a great job!! If you still have the lunch application sheet & do not wish to participate, just write your child's name, write do not wish to apply, & sign it. I think the school gets credit for returned papers even if the student does not participate. I was able to meet all the parents the first day of school. We have a great class and will have a great year!!
