                                 MATH

                    Multiplication and Division

Unit 9 is one of three units in Third Grade Everyday Mathematics that focuses on the important skills of multiplication and division. In this unit, focus is on the partial products algorithm for multiplying 1- and 2 digit numbers, as well as developing readiness skills for division. In addition, children will review important concepts such as remainders in division and positive and negative numbers. Unit 9 has four main areas of focus:

1. To multiply and divide with multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000 

2. To use mental math to multiply

3. To share money, and

4. To find products of 2-digit numbers


                           READER'S WORKSHOP

Independent Reading, Reading Logs, Partner talk, Choosing Books, Book Clubs etc. Starting the month of November, reading logs will be collected twice through the month as grades.

Activities for Differentiation (Individual Book clubs)

- Character Study

- Making Connections

- Directing Discussions

- Word Investigations

- Using art to portray meaning in the text

- Inferencing


                             WRITER'S WORKSHOP

 Collecting stories, Learning to write with volume and building stamina, and enjoying the process of writing! 

This Month: Pourqoui Stories!

"Pourquoi" [por-kwa] means "why" in French. Pourquoi tales are written to explain why things are the way they are and usually describe something in nature. For example, how did the zebra get its stripes?

                    SPELLING/WORDLY WISE

Week of May 5th: Wordly Wise Lesson 11


                                      SCIENCE

This week's lab: Ice Cream!  


                              SOCIAL STUDIES

Children will develop and run their own business.


                                

We made it! The end of the year is near. Although we have faced some challenges, we have been able to overcome them and have a very successful year! I hope everyone has a wonderful summer! You have all earned it!
