Dear Parents,
This week in reading/phonics we studied the sounds p, t, c, and short a. As you look around the room you are in have your child name a few objects that have these sounds in them. We feel the air as it leaves our mouths when we say the different sounds have your child show you this.
In math we will continue to do addition problems. We have tried a few different ways to add on 0, 1, and 2 have your child show you the way that works best for them.
In Science we are talking about trees. We walked around the school grounds to touch, and identify different trees. We learned that there are two main kinds of trees: broadleaf trees (ones with leaves), and conifer trees (evergreen with needles). We are still collecting leaves.
In writing we are making a tree book. This project will probably take most of the month of September.
In reading we are working on sight words, next week I will be sending a list of words home with students to practice a few minutes each day. We read a variety of books each day, the small books to be read at night provide practice for students as they gain confidence in their abilities. Please continue filling out the reading logs, they look different this week. Students should color in the stepping stones as they read the books. Please send them back each Friday. Remember I will not be sending books home to read on Friday, but please read daily with your child.
We have had three students go home (stay home) ill already this year; we try to wash, and use hand sanitizer often, but sometimes students need a reminder.
Thanks for sending your children ready to learn, they are all great kids.
