Dear Parents and Students,
Second graders are studying repitiles and mammals in science. Students need to be able to list characteristics of each. Students will be making paper sloths and turtles with the characteristics listed to help them learn them.
Second graders are reaching the end of Chapter 8 in math. They have had fun making bar and pictures graphs recording favorite suckers and various colored jelly beans. Students have also enjoyed creating their own calendars on Starfall.com.
Writing activities have included writing their 4 most wished for items on a shamrock, leprechaun limericks, and stories about how to catch a leprechaun. Reading about bunnies and writing bunny stories with a partner has helped to improve student's writing.
Please continue to try to remember to complete your math homework and have your child read their AR book every night for 30 minutes. Student's are working towards earning 100 AR points to earn an Accelerated Reading Star shirt. Landon Alsup has been our first winner!
Keep working on those math facts! Practice papers will also come home that you can use to help guide your practice. Making flash cards, playing concentration, games on the computer and practicing orally are all ways that will help improve automaticity. Your child should be about half way through the stubtraction facts. We are soon beginning our last quarter of school!
Check out the new file attachments. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
Thank You,
Mrs. Kadera
