Instructional Coaching: A partnership approach to improving student achievement
As an instructional facilitator I have received training in reading and writing in the content area, classroom management, and instructional facilitation strategies. I can assist educators in a variety of ways, both in and out of the classroom. I can:
Provide indirect student support
Locate and share resources
Assist in team planning
Team teach
Model a strategy in the classroom
Let me know how I can work in partnership with you to ensure your students' success. You can find me in Big Horn Monday through Wednesday in Room 111, and at the Central Office on Thursday and Friday. Check this site monthly for the featured instructional strategy and click on the links below to find more strategies and lesson ideas.
Instructional Strategy of the Month: Practice Makes Permanent!
10-24-7 is more than just a locker combination! It's an easy way to remember that students need to review new content after 10 minutes, 24 hours and again in 7 days.
Review strengthens the neural connections and establishes a sense of "I know this!" Therefore, reviewing must be done multi-modal (visual, auditory, kinesthetic), preferably in a different context than originally presented.
10 minutes into your presentation, ask students to: • Share with a partner • Add a picture or explanation to their notes • Work in small groups to apply new information
24 hours later, ask students to: • Write about the concept(s) heard yesterday • Apply new information with partner or small group • Review notes, adding explanation, diagram, picture
7 days later, students can review by using: • Word sorts • Word hierarchies • Exit tickets
