My name is Alyssa Finkelstein, and I am excited to be working with all of your children this year. These next several months will be critical steps in the path toward getting your students prepared for high school math. They will be learning the fundamentals of upper level mathematics, as well as reinforcing math that they already know and learning new applications for things they have learned in the past. PLEASE feel free to contact me at any time during the year with any concerns you have about your child and/or their grade:
afinkelstein@musd20.org

Here is our supply list for this semester.  Please make sure they can start on the first day fully prepared. They need these items to be for math ONLY. These will be their math supplies for the semester, so please make sure everything is marked with their name and grade:

(Please note: binders, folders, notebooks, and paper may be of any color or design, but designs and pictures must be appropriate for a middle school environment.)

*One 3-ring binder, 1”
*One pack of college ruled paper, for homework
*One single subject spiral notebook, for notes
* One double-pocket folder with 3-ring brads, for tests
(These will be kept in my classroom)
*Two packs of pencils; one for home and one for school
(School set will be kept in my classroom.  All work is to be done in pencil. Pen will not be acceptable.)
*several large pink or “magic rub” erasers, or a Pentel click eraser
*One hi-lighter

This year is going to be quite an adventure!
Glad you’re along for the ride!
~Mrs. F

(As always, classroom donations are greatly appreciated.  We always need Kleenex tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, white board markers, extra loose leaf paper, and extra supplies for students in need.  Thank you!!!)

In case any of you are interested, here's a little bit about me:

After I graduated from high school in southern California, I joined the Navy to become a part of their nuclear engineering program.  That's where I met my husband.  I spent two years with the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command before I left the military and moved on to college.  I earned my Bachelor's degree from the California State University, where I studied sociology and juvenile delinquency.

While my husband was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, I earned my MBA, after which we moved here to Arizona and I fulfilled my lifelong dream by starting my teaching career.  I taught last year at Maricopa High School, where I worked specifically with students who had previously failed their math class at least once.  I really enjoyed working with my freshmen, and I realized that I could do a lot of good work if I caught them just a little bit earlier.  Over the summer I found myself here.

I live in Maricopa with my three kids and my husband, who's a paramedic with the local Ak-Chin Nation fire department, and he teaches CPR classes, advanced cardiac life support and basic life support classes at various community colleges around the Phoenix Valley. Our kids are 8, 4, and 2.

I love to relax and play with my kids and my giant dogs. We have two Great Danes and a German Shepherd. My two cats are lazy and mostly just lie around in the sun.
