Hello from Room 16!
Welcome to the new school year and to Fourth Grade. This year, there will be two fourth grades at View Ridge, and I am very happy to begin my 28th year at VR, teaching fourth graders.
The fourth grade supply list has been pared down to just essential supplies needed every day. Both the binder and planner (school provided) need to be in class EVERY day as we use them every day. Check weekly to be sure that your child has enough notebook paper and sharpened pencils so that they are ready for class and work at home.
Individual pencil sharpeners are handy for home use, if they are kept in backpacks. Our classroom has electric pencil sharpeners for use in the classroom.
Homework will be assigned on the first day of the week during this first grading period that ends in early December. We will have a required math practice sheet that reinforces what has been taught that day in math. It will be in a stapled packet that stays in the binder until the unit is completed, and the tests are completed. It can be corrected at home and will be checked off in class.
FYI:
* Homework is scheduled 4 nights a week, for about 45 minutes nightly.
* Homework is usually one math sheet, and 25 minutes of reading, student choice.
* 10 minutes of math fact practice (addition, subtraction, or multiplication facts) daily.
* Several times during the year, a project will be assigned to be worked on at home.
Online ordering with Scholastic Books has been set up for your use. It allows credit cards for purchases, with the classroom getting the bonus points to order more classroom books. All students are encouraged to use the classroom paperback library: two book maximum, for school or home use.
I welcome emails.
