Expectations for Mrs. Milligan’s Math Classes 2007/2008
Students and Parents or Guardians,
Expectations for class:
Math students are to come to class prepared to work. Each student shall have a regular pencil, a colored pencil or pen for correcting, a composition book for notes and loose-leaf paper for working problems.
All math classes have books for use in the classroom. Additionally algebra students have a textbook for use at home.
An assignment will be given every day and reviewed the next day in class. Assignments will be graded at the end of each unit when all assignments are turned in as part of each unit’s portfolio. Each student has their own file folder in class to store their completed assignments for each unit, until the unit is complete.
Grading will primarily be based on tests, in addition a grade will be given for each student’s in-class productivity and effort in working the assignments but this will not count toward the final grade it is for information only, and a grade will be given for each student’s unit portfolio and each student’s notebook. Students in Bridges to Algebra will also be graded in their performance and progress on the computer lab’s Cognitive Tutor program. Grades will be based on a 0 -100 percent grading scale.
Retaking a test to earn a higher grade must be done after school by arrangement with Mrs. Milligan. Students who want extra help, tutoring, make up missed assignments, or want additional computer lab time are welcome after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4 p.m. in room C102. Tutoring at any other time is by arrangement with Mrs. Milligan.
All school rules will be enforced: students may not chew gum, use any electronic devises, except a calculator, at any time on school grounds.
My goal is to post grades daily. Parents and students may monitor progress through Family Access: http://www.bremertonschools.org/. I will also post all assignments on the calendar in the SchoolNotes web site: http://www.schoolnotes.com/, use zip code 98310. Classroom visits by parents are welcome at any time, please notify me when you are coming, and first check in at the office when you enter the school.
Please contact me through email: elizabeth.milligan@bsd.wednet.edu or on my classroom phone 473-0681 and leave a voice mail message. Email is my preferred method of communication.
I look forward to getting to know all of my students and their parents. We all will enjoy this year of quality learning in a quality school.
