• SADD fact of the day: Peer pressure is often blamed for prompting teens to start smoking -stick with friends who encourage you to do things that won’t kill you!

• ELL Students -  Please remember to report to Ms. Welsh at 7:30 THIS morning for testing!!  There will be treats!

• Congratulations to the choir students who will be going to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest, April 23.  Our Olympic League Contest was Saturday, Feb 6, and brought plenty of competition from SKHS, CKHS and NKHS.  Our large ensemble ladies group, were the regional winners out of 10 other groups and our men’s quartet were the regional winners out of 3 other groups.   We have twenty students who will compete at the state level.  We have a men's trio who finished as first alternates and a mixed ensemble and men’s ensemble who finished as 2nd alternates.  We will be notified in early April if these groups will also be competing.

• Attention Ms. Hendry's First Semester Pop Lit. Students.  Today is the last day to pick up your graded assignments from last semester including your Lit. Circle project.  All assignments in Ms. Hendry's room at 2:30 will be lovingly recycled.  Please see Ms. Hendry TODAY if you would like your project for your portfolio!

• Is there a certain coach or PE teacher that has changed the way athletes & students understand good pre-and post-game nutrition?  Visit www.bodybymilk.com/spotlighton and explain what they are doing and you could win them their own Milk Mustache ad and an NBA player appearance at our school!

• Link Crew meeting this Thursday at 2:10 in the new commons.  Please be there! 

• Congratulations Skills USA members!  They competed last weekend in regional competition and received 1^st place in 6 events and 2nd place in 2 events.  GO KNIGHTS!

• Seniors – Eight scholarships or contests deadlines are ending this week and next Monday.  Check out the Scholarship & Opportunities listing & links on the High School website or come to the Career Center for more information.

• Skills USA meeting this Thursday after school in room 125 - all members come and let’s celebrate our accomplishments of last weekend and start getting ready for State!

• You have today, Wednesday and Thursday and then you’ll be left out!  Don’t let it happen!  If there is a special someone in your life, consider buying a beautiful Valentine’s Day gift for them.  You can purchase a red silk rose, Valentine’s card and Dove chocolate for the tiny price of $2.  This is available from February for ONLY THREE MORE DAYS!  Find an FCCLA member and place your order now OR you can see Mrs. Abbe in room 111.  Don’t miss out.  Make your friends and sweetie happy with a red rose, Valentine and Dove chocolate!

• Attention Seniors: We are placing an order for Senior Tee Shirts at the end of this week. You can choose from a lady's v-neck or a standard men's tee in either black or white. Our designer has graciously created an additional design for you to choose from. If you loved the original it is still available at the originally advertised prices. If you prefer the new "Knight Time" design, you may order it for an additional $5.00. The choice is yours. Your final cost will vary depending on style and design selected and whether or not you have your shirt personalized. See Ms. Deam or Ms. Maib in the main office to order.

• FCCLA is meeting on Thursday to organize the delivery of our Valentine’s, roses and chocolate on Friday.  Please remember to bring your permission slip for the STAR Events competition on March 11.  Please also be ready to really work on your STAR Events project.  See you after school on Thursday.  Mrs. Abbe

• Key Club Members – There will be a Key Club meeting this Wednesday in the new Commons right after school!  Be there!

• Calling all Juniors!  Olympic College is hosting the Washington Council 2010 College Planning Day.  You will have opportunities to learn about Washington State’s higher education options.  Admission counselors from Washington public and independent colleges and universities will provide half-hour presentations with a Question & Answer time at the end.  Students will have the opportunity to choose to attend four different sessions.  Olympic College will offer a session as well as a tour of the campus.  If interested, sign up now in the Counseling Center.  Day of the event is Tuesday, March 23^rd from 9:00 a.m. to12:00.

• Hood Canal Masonic Community Scholarship Foundation’s scholarship applications are now available.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and planning to attend an accredited college, university or trade school.  Applications are available in the Career Center and are due by March 31^st.

• Students – remember to check out the latest scholarship information and upcoming events and opportunities that are available on the high school webpage available through the district’s website.  Lots of great info!

• The Career Center has added 12 – yes 12 – new scholarships to the bin!  These scholarships are sponsored by various Shipyard professional organizations, unions, and non-profit agencies for federal employees.  All but one scholarship requires that one of your parents (or in some cases grandparents) must be a current or retired federal employee and a member of that organization.  The National Association of Naval Technical Supervisors only requirements are that a student plans to pursue an engineering or science degree.  Get your parents to check out the details on the new entries at the Scholarship Information Page on the high school web page to see if you qualify!

• All BSU members who plan on attending the African American Legislative Day in Olympia on Friday Feb, 12 must pick up a permission slip in Rm. 113 or see Mrs. Molina. Thanks you!

• Seniors - the senior sweat shirts are available to buy NOW.  Order forms are in the office and in rooms 125 and 128.  The cost is only $35!!  Such a deal for a soft, hoodie-style sweat shirt, in either white or blue -- AND it has all the names of the graduating seniors on it!!  The first order is in and available for pick up, so stop by room 128 before or after school or during lunch to get yours now!

• Honor Society is joining with the Credit union to support the rescue mission in Haiti.  Bring your new or slightly used shoes, bound together to the main office now through FRIDAY.
