  Dear students and families,
I wanted to say that I am so thankful for your cards, gifts, prayers, and well wishes. I will miss being in the classroom each day and will keep in touch to see how you are all doing. Miss Otto will be with you for the rest off your first grade year and you will have so much fun learning with her.
Miss Otto will be creating a newsletter instead of a web page at the moment, that will keep you updated and prepared! If you would like to continue to receive a webpage notification each week you are more than welcome to visit Mrs.. DiTomaso's page at  https://schoolnotes.com/xpages/view/210452 .  Mrs.. DiTomaso's page also has a notification list and feel free to add your email to her contacts and you will receive her page each week.
Again thank you for the gift of you children,

Grade 1 has completed Unit 1: Animals-Wild and Tame in our Reading Street program!  We read different stories and learned about many animals.  For a final activity, we are asking first graders to make an animal mask of a wild animal or tame animal!

This simple mask can be made from a paper plate or out of construction paper.  We will share our masks with our grade one team!

**Parents, we want you to help your child, but your first grader should be doing most of the work!

Please have masks in by Friday, November 15th!

Have fun!!

Image result for whole body listening

I am hoping you can have a discussion with your first grader
every night/morning about these "self" personal checks....
:)  we have 4 basic rules.

1.Raise your hand to share
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Be kind
4. Listen with your whole body

The five steps of being ready to transition are.....

When the class/students are asked to "give me 5," they are being asked to use their whole body to listen.

1.Voice is off-no talking
2. Hands are still
3. Feet are still
4. Eyes are watching-looking at the teacher
5. Ears are listening

When a teacher is speaking, it is expected that the first graders will follow these 5 steps to focus and listen.
Each day we work on remembering to follow these steps.
Being reminded at home, will help us be aware of and follow teacher directions, stay on task, and quiet down quickly when transitioning to different activities.
It also helps build a calm, respectful classroom environment.
Any help you can offer at home to reiterate and review our classroom behavioral expectations is greatly appreciated!
